Bobby's Job Blog

 In the first few weeks of my internship at the YMCA Greendale Branch I have been on the marketing team. Every day is a new adventure and I can't wait to follow you all along with me on this journey. This past week I have been focusing a lot of time on social media posting, learning about analytics such as peak times to post and how to create easy eye catching post descriptions that will grab peoples attention. I have also been putting a lot of effort into creating videos for the YMCA see attached link for the video that I directed: https://www.instagram.com/p/DPmr_hojSzl. I have also worked on creating staff shoutouts such as: https://www.instagram.com/p/DPq-pItiUBQ  . My internship is not just about learning about marketing which is my main focus. It's also about making sure people have the best experience possible when they walk through the door and making sure the YMCA is a welcoming place, I feel good with the work that I do and feel motivated to put out something that others can enjoy for example I recently created a Halloween flyer and a guest map for everyone to use. The way they set up the internship is also very unique. They include my in staff meetings and are always very open to my suggestions. People also come to me asking for help or if I have any ideas for them. 


As I dive deeper into marketing I've discovered it's a lot harder then I originally anticipated. There's a lot of psychology involved and creating bonds with people and good impressions. I guess I just underestimated it due to my ignorance. I'm glad that I recognize that and I am not one to admit things that I struggle with. I get a lot of inspiration from things that surround me. For example when I walk into a store or a local shop I find myself questioning what led me to go into this store or cafe and not the one across the street? Do they have a better sign? Do they have better food? Did I see a promotion outside a flyer perhaps that I drew my interest? I love pondering on things that make me curious. That make me engaged. I personally am still trying to figure out what I want to do in my life and maybe this with this blog and writing down my thoughts it will help me. I wanted to start a journal recently to get my thoughts onto paper but this seems like a good start.

 In the past week I have been working a lot on flyers around the building specifically I have been working a lot of pickleball promotions as well as promoting our haunted house. The haunted house was very fun to work on. Anyone could show up to the building and the haunted house was free. It took a lot of time and effort to get everything set up. A TON of promotion had to happen, we did lots of meetings on it as well which I found very interesting since I'm still very knew to the dynamics of sitting down and being in meetings. I personally feel like I have learned a lot so far and I am starting to feel a lot more comfortable in the workplace.  Somethings that I really enjoy is how open everyone is to my ideas. Bobby's Blog 11/16/25

 This week was a bit shorter of a week due to the holiday so this may be a bit of a shorter blog post. This week on Thursday me and my boss Pat worked on a video for our week of giving. The goal of this video is to help to strengthen our community and provide gifts for those in need.  https://www.instagram.com/p/DRA1PQWCSdY  . Me and Pat created a script thinking about what sounds good and how to talk to make the video appealing and easy to watch. After we came up with the script we filmed the video using our iphones. It took awhile and many failed script attempts but we managed to film the video in about 15 minutes. We downloaded the video and then I got to editing. First I decided what transitions to use when I make videos I use a notepad top create a general layout of what I want it to look like.
